The Dallas Opera: Moby Dick
November 12, 2016
Moby Dick was the first collaboration between Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer, the opera team that brought us Great Scott last fall. While the pacing and humor is similar, the stories are wildly different.
Denton Community Theatre: Mary Poppins
April 15, 2016
Denton Community Theatre brought together a phenomenal cast for their latest production. Beth Lipton's Mary was a delicate balance of prim iron and loving strength, bringing humanity to the unearthly character.
The Dallas Opera: Great Scott
November 7, 2015
The opening scene is an engaging introduction into the rehearsal room where Arden is late because of an interview on 60 Minutes, pushy new soprano Tatyana Bakst is trying to convince Winnie to let her sing Arden’s part, stage manager Roane is flitting around keeping things under control, and conductor Eric Gold is becoming increasingly exasperated with the singers.
The Dallas Opera: Tosca
November 6, 2015
Critics called The Dallas Opera's Tosca a "safe", "conventional" choice, but the classic production had its own beauty. My sister Allison and I (she attending a live opera for the first time, I for the third) were enthralled with the drama and over-the-top passion that have characterized opera for so long.
UT Dallas: A Little Night Music
April 9, 2015
As the only sane (or at least non-dysfunctional) person in the Egerman household, Petra acts as a foil to the whole cast. In a world of characters pretending to care, pretending not to love, pretending to know what’s happening, Petra is brash and unapologetic and happy.
